Our soil is fertile!

compost is not a fertilizer. It is a precondition for soil activity.

The relationship between soil and fertility is always linked to the available supply of organic matter. Organic matter brings both oxygen and soil fertility to the soil. 'Soil fertility' actually is 'soil activity', is 'soil organisms'. Soil organisms 'consume' the stone dust content of the soil and make the minerals in the soil available to plant life. In this, organic matter is an intermediate. Soil, in fact, is a mutable interplay between stone dust, organic matter, oxygen and water... Where the work is done by microbes (by bacteria)...

Why immerse materials before composting? "What I want is to wet the material in such way, that the bacteria are able to get a 'grip' on the hay. Good grip on both the waxy layer of the plant as well on the pile itself..."
